Who can apply — Nationality & Education
- Nationality: Indian citizen; or subject of Nepal/Bhutan; or certain persons of Indian origin from specified countries (certificate of eligibility required in some cases).
- Essential qualification (as on 01-01-2026): Passed 12th Standard (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized board. For some DEO posts (see notice) 12th with Mathematics in Science stream is required.

Application fee
- Fee payable: ₹100.
- Exemptions: Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempt.

Key Tier-II points: All candidates who qualify Tier-I must appear in Tier-II. Section-III and Section-IV are qualifying in nature. There is negative marking of 1 mark per wrong answer in Section-I/II/III (Tier-II).
Indicative syllabus (short)
- English: Grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, error spotting, sentence improvement, cloze test.
- Quantitative / Mathematical Abilities: Basics — number systems, percentages, ratio, profit & loss, time & work, mensuration, algebra, geometry, trigonometry (Tier-II more advanced).
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: Verbal & non-verbal reasoning, series, classification, figure analysis, coding-decoding, logical puzzles.
- General Awareness: Current affairs, history, geography, economics, basic science and national/international events.
- Computer Knowledge: Basics of computer hardware/software, MS Office, internet, shortcuts, basic networking.
Exam centres
SSC provides a long list of centres across Regions (Central, Eastern, Karnataka & Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, North Eastern, Northern, North-Western, Southern, Western, etc.).
