Who can apply — Nationality & Education

  • Nationality: Indian citizen; or subject of Nepal/Bhutan; or certain persons of Indian origin from specified countries (certificate of eligibility required in some cases).
  • Essential qualification (as on 01-01-2026): Passed 12th Standard (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized board. For some DEO posts (see notice) 12th with Mathematics in Science stream is required.
  • Candidates appearing in 12th may apply but must possess the qualification by 01-01-2026.

Application fee

  • Fee payable: ₹100.
  • Exemptions: Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempt.
  • Payment modes: BHIM UPI, Netbanking, Debit/Credit cards (Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay).
  • Fee once paid will not be refunded or adjusted.

Tier-II (CBT) — Detailed (qualifying & merit)

Key Tier-II points: All candidates who qualify Tier-I must appear in Tier-II. Section-III and Section-IV are qualifying in nature. There is negative marking of 1 mark per wrong answer in Section-I/II/III (Tier-II).


Indicative syllabus (short)

  • English: Grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, error spotting, sentence improvement, cloze test.
  • Quantitative / Mathematical Abilities: Basics — number systems, percentages, ratio, profit & loss, time & work, mensuration, algebra, geometry, trigonometry (Tier-II more advanced).
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: Verbal & non-verbal reasoning, series, classification, figure analysis, coding-decoding, logical puzzles.
  • General Awareness: Current affairs, history, geography, economics, basic science and national/international events.
  • Computer Knowledge: Basics of computer hardware/software, MS Office, internet, shortcuts, basic networking.

Exam centres

SSC provides a long list of centres across Regions (Central, Eastern, Karnataka & Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, North Eastern, Northern, North-Western, Southern, Western, etc.). Candidates must select three centres in order of preference in the online application. The Commission may add, cancel or reassign centres and will notify changes on the SSC website.


Documents you will need (for application & document verification)

  • Valid photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence) — original at time of exam/DV (unless Aadhaar authentication opted).
  • Class 10 & 12 mark sheets / passing certificates (proof of age & qualification).
  • Certificate for category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), if applicable (in specified format).
  • PWD certificate (if applicable) in prescribed format.
  • Ex-serviceman certificates / serving defence certificates (if applicable).
  • Passport-size photograph and scanned signature (as per size requirements).
  • Any other document listed in Admission Certificate at DV stage.


Selection & Cut-offs

  • Candidates are shortlisted for Tier-II on the basis of Tier-I performance (normalized scores used if multiple shifts).
  • Minimum qualifying marks (Tier-I & Tier-II sections) vary by category: UR 30%, OBC/EWS 25%, Others 20% (see notice for full details).
  • Final merit is based on aggregate performance in Tier-II (as per notice).
